I will be bigger than you. You cannot defeat me.
“If I were asked to give what I consider the single most useful bit of advice for all humanity, it would be this: Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life, and when it comes, hold your head high. Look it squarely in the eye, and say, "I will be bigger than you. You cannot defeat me.”
Our inability to overcome trouble or difficulties is one of the major factors in being successful or not. Whether it is success in martial arts, business, relationships, work, finances and/or health your ability to override the lure of giving up will put you in the best position to achieve your goals.
Below are 5 tips that I have used to overcome difficulties in my life as a martial artists and business owner:
Use Forward Thinking
Forward thinking is your ability to concentrate and put your attention on what you want as apposed to what you don’t want. It’s thinking about how you want your life to look in the future rather than how it is right now. It’s your ability to envisage your life’s dreams and make adjustments in the NOW moments to bring forth what you want. Every successful person I have met or studied knew way before they became successful. They knew exactly what their life was going to look like before it actually happened.
Find a mentor
I have mentioned this many times because it is so important. You have to find someone who has done what you want to do and you need to learn from them – period. If you have a mentor they can help guide you and direct you so that you don’t make the same mistakes and run into as many “difficulties” as they have. A mentor can and should also act as a sounding board to your ideas and hiccups to offer you the best advise concerning which direction to go.
This is huge and probably the area that most people don’t utilise. You have to be a self-educator if you are going to overcome difficulties. And I’m not talking about formal education, even though I think that formal education is very important. I am talking about reading books, listening to audio CDs and watching educational DVDs. Almost every resource that you need, to overcome whatever your obstacles are, has been created by someone who has conquered that very same problem that you have. I spend about $500 / month on self-education to make me a better martial artist, teacher and person and it’s worth every cent.
The important thing with taking action is to make sure that your taking the actions that are going to move you towards your goals or dreams. Every single one of us has the same 24 hours to play with and the only difference between successful people and the rest of us is that they fill as much of their days with activities which are going to actualise or manifest their desires and minimal time on tasks that don’t.
Never Give up
I read somewhere once that a successful person is simply an unsuccessful person who never gave up. And I think that there is a lot of merit to that statement simply because successful people all have run into the same blocks, difficulties and problems that we all run into along the way to achievement. The only major difference between them and us is that they have never given up. They take the same problems that we all get – find out how to defeat it (mentor / self education) and apply that knowledge to the problem until it is conquered (take action).
